METImage

METImage is the multispectral imaging instrument aboard EUMETSAT’s Metop-SG satellites and represents the next generation of polar-orbiting visible and infrared imagery, with strong heritage and continuity from VIIRS. METImage provides global coverage with a broad suite of visible, near-infrared, and infrared channels at high spatial resolution, including several bands not available on VIIRS that enable new applications for cloud, moisture, surface, and hazard monitoring. The VIIRS Imagery Team will lead early imagery evaluation, validation, and product development for METImage, transitioning proven VIIRS multispectral imagery products where appropriate while also developing new multispectral imagery tailored to METImage’s unique spectral capabilities. This work will focus on ensuring consistent imagery appearance, supporting high-latitude applications, engaging users for feedback, and preparing METImage imagery for visualization platforms, training, and operational integration.
