CIRA presentation at the NOAA Emerging Technology (ET) 2025 Season Wrap-up Meeting
Alan Brammer and Mark DeMaria gave a virtual presentation at the NOAA ET 2025 Season Wrap-up meeting describing CIRA’s and NHC’s contributions to the project. The project focus is to use new technology, such as Blackswift drones, to take measurements in tropical cyclones in areas that are unsafe for crewed aircraft, such as in the boundary layer of strong hurricanes. The project involves a collaboration between NOAA, the private sector and universities. CIRA’s role is to work with NHC to demonstrate the new capabilities in real time on their AWIPS systems, and to perform research to improve the use of the data. Alex DesRosiers and Kate Schwartz also attended the meeting and provided input to the CIRA presentation.
