NHC Preliminary Verification Report brings media praise to NHC forecast improvements and references work enabled by the CIRA/NHC partnership

Jonathan Martinez collaborated with Senior Hurricane Specialist John Cangialosi to evaluate the National Hurricane Center official forecasts for the North Atlantic basin 2024 hurricane season. The evaluation results served as the basis of the first preliminary seasonal verification report issued by NHC entitled “2024 NHC Verification Report Preview: Atlantic Basin”, available online at: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pdf/NHC_Verification_Report_Preview.pdf

USA Today published an article referencing findings from the preliminary verification report. The article highlights the value that the National Hurricane Center program brings to the public through continuous improvements to skillful hurricane forecasts.
