CIRA SLIDER Celebrates Soccer

Example of the GOES-18 Meso2 sector on SLIDER with the new “World Cup Stadiums” map layer activated, highlighting the stadiums in Kansas City, Houston and Dallas.

With the FIFA World Cup starting on 11 June 2026, and the increased attention to weather in and around the various stadiums where matches will be played, the SLIDER Team has added a new map layer highlighting these stadiums (see figure below). By default, this map layer will appear until the final match is concluded in July. For those not interested in soccer, this map layer is easily hidden. The new maps are found on both GOES-18 and GOES-19 imagery for all sectors and are available in a variety of colors.
