GOES-R Cyclogenesis Potential Vorticity Concepts
Introduction:
This module is part of the Satellite Foundational Course for GOES-R (SatFC-G). This particular module covers potential vorticity concepts applied to extra-tropical cyclogenesis.
Learning objectives:
- Review the concept of “potential vorticity (PV) thinking” and how it related to cyclogenesis
- Discuss satellite identification of “PV anomalies”
- Discuss which ABI bands can be helpful in viewing PV anomalies
- Examine a case study
Training Session Options:
NOAA/NWS students – to begin the training, use the web-based video, YouTube video, or audio playback options below (if present for this session). Certificates of completion for NOAA/NWS employees can be obtained by accessing the session via the Commerce Learning Center.
