NOAA Hyperspectral Workshop
MIT/Lincoln Laboratory, Lexington, MA
February 12 & 13, 2002
D. Hillger participated in a 2-day Hyperspectral Workshop at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington MA on February 12 and 13. The workshop provided an opportunity for scientists from many different institutions to share information on hyperspectral imaging using currently available data and to explore the possibility of hyperspectral imaging as the preferred instrumentation for the next generation of operational weather satellites. D. Hillger gave a presentation on the use of Principal Component analysis to not only compress multispectral data (to reduce transmission bandwidth and time), but to reduce noise by truncating the higher-numbered components that consist mainly of noise.
