Introduction:

The learning objectives for this training are:

1. Describe the spectrum of NHC tropical cyclone track models.
2. Describe the general strengths and weaknesses of each track model.
3. Understand how track models are used in consensus forecasts.
4. Have an overview of future track forecast model improvements.

Introduction:

This training session focuses on the Dvorak Technique, which is used to assign tropical cyclone intensity, in other words how strong the winds are in a hurricane. The Dvorak technique uses satellite images alone to determine the maximum wind speed of a tropical cyclone.
