Introduction


The objectives of this session are:

  1. Ensure that all meteorologists are aware of ACARS.
  2. Present a brief history of aircraft weather data.
  3. Discuss data quality and availability
  4. Demonstrate how the FSL ACARS web page is used to display the data
  5. Show how ACARS will be displayed on AWIPS
  6. Present applications of ACARS data from meteorologistsin airline and NWSFO’s (including CWSUs and national centers)

Training Session Options


  1. VISITview playback without Audio – You may step through the VISITview file on your own to view the presentation. If talking points are available, you may use these in tandem with going through the slides.

    Create a directory to download the playback file from the following site: http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/training/visit/training_sessions/meteorological_uses_of_acars_weather_data/meteorological_uses_of_acars_weather_data.exe

    After extracting the files into that directory click on the visitlocal.bat file to start the lesson. Advance slides on your own using the navigation controls (i.e., the Next button will advance to the next slide)
