AMPS 2026, LEO Satellite Workshop and visits to Alaska WFOs
J. Torres (CIRA) attended the 2026 Arctic METOC Partnership Summit (AMPS) from 23-27 March 2026 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Torres also participated and presented on the ‘Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS)’ at the AMPS LEO Satellite Workshop, which was held on 25 and 26 March 2026. CIRA also created a webpage to host the training materials for the LEO Satellite Workshop, seen here: https://rammb2.cira.colostate.edu/training/2026-amps-meeting-leo-satellite-workshop/. Additionally, CIRA, GINA, CIMSS, and the LEO Satellite Program visited and interacted with NWS forecasters at WFO Fairbanks, AK, and collected forecasted feedback on the usage of satellite products in operations and identified the unique forecasting challenges for Fairbanks, AK. Torres then traveled to WFO – Juneau, AK, on 30 March 2026 and interacted with forecasters and collected their feedback on the usage of satellite data in operations.
