CIRA Researchers Discuss AI for Weather Forecasting
K. Hilburn and I. Ebert-Uphoff were interviewed by Heather Waldman (KCRA – NBC Sacramento) about applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for weather forecasting: https://www.kcra.com/article/weather-california-forecasating-our-future-artificial-intelligence/44653106. K. Hilburn highlights CIRA research using AI to get more information from satellite observations to connect with numerical weather prediction models, and the potential for improving wildfire forecasting using AI. Ebert-Uphoff (quoted in the accompanying blog, but no video clip) emphasizes the need to bring in forecasters and social scientists to evaluate fully AI-driven weather forecasting models. (POC: K.
