Slocum spoke with The New York Times climate science reporter Henry Fountain about the ingredients and mechanisms of intensification. In the article entitled “Ida Strengthened Quickly Into a Monster. Here’s How.”, C. Slocum discussed the roles that ocean heat content, vertical wind shear, and eyewall & rainband convection played in the intensification of Hurricane Ida prior to making landfall on 29 August near Port Fourchon, Louisiana as a category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
