Slocum’s morning telework coffee routine took an interesting turn when he stepped outside to empty the coffee grounds from his French press onto his lawn. Fort Collins is working on sewer line infrastructure maintenance and diverting sewage above ground along a popular bike trail next to a creek that is part of a city park — these recreation areas are next to C. Slocum’s residence. When C. Slocum stepped outside, he discovered that the creek was turning an unsightly brown as 10,000 gallons of raw sewage accidentally spilled into the water after a mishap with the diversion pipe. C. Slocum alerted Fort Collins Utilities, who quickly attempted to address the mishap before more raw sewage entered the creek and to start remediating the contamination. Until now, telework has lacked the oddities that many CIRA/RAMMB employees are accustomed to while at the Foothills Campus of Colorado State University (e.g., snakes hanging from light fixtures, mountain lion sightings, exterior doors falling off hinges).
