Rapid intensification article
As part of CSU & CIRA’s research engagement efforts, Chris Slocum wrote an article for The Conversation, a university-sponsored not-for-profit media outlet for publishing news stories written by researchers, on tropical cyclone rapid intensification. The article entitled “Hurricane Laura was the latest storm to strengthen fast, but is rapid intensification really becoming more common?” covers the active 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, environmental ingredients for rapid intensification, and possible trends in rapid intensification due to a changing climate. Between 28 August and 1 September, the article had been accessed 12,000 times and has been highlighted by the U.N. Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s PreventionWeb. https://theconversation.com/hurricane-laura-was-the-latest-storm-to-strengthen-fast-but-is-rapid-intensification-really-becoming-more-common-145229 (POC: Chris Slocum, StAR; Christopher.Slocum@noaa.gov) Funding: StAR
