Virtual Alaska Weather Seminar

CIRA scientist John Forsythe presented the Virtual Alaska Weather Seminar (VAWS) on May 29. The title was “Multisatellite Water Vapor Products at the Weather-Climate Interface”.  The Advected Layer Precipitable Water (ALPW) and Blended Total Precipitable Water (BTPW) products for forecasters were highlighted for atmospheric river events causing heavy precipitation in Alaska.    An example of the surface-850 mb ALPW product is shown in the Figure.  Experimental water vapor percentile and layered vapor transport products which are being evaluated by Alaska region forecasters can reveal the connection of water vapor to tropical sources.    (POC: John Forsythe, CIRA, john.forsythe@colostate.edu.   Funding:  JPSS PGRR; NOAA Climate Program Office).
